Maintaining your carpets is a very important part of keeping your home clean, fresh and healthy.  Our carpets and rugs are the largest filters in our homes.  When you think about what your air filter looks like when you replace it, you understand the importance of cleaning and maintaining your carpets.  Most carpet manufacturers recommend vacuuming high traffic areas twice a week with a Carpet and Rug Institute Seal of Approval awarded vacuum, keeping quality door mats at all indoor/outdoor entry ways to catch dirt before it ever reaches your carpets and professional hot water extraction every 12-18 months to keep your carpets clean and healthy.  This is also part of most manufacturer warranties.  Dirt that gets deep into your carpets fibers begin to break down the fibers as it is walked on through abrasion.  This is why you begin to see walk patterns in heavily used areas of your home.  To keep your carpets looking their best, make sure to practice good maintenance!

We primarily use the hot water extraction method to clean your carpets.  When we leave, your carpets are still slightly damp.  Depending on your fiber of carpet they will be mostly dry within.  Wool carpets do require a longer dry time than synthetic fibers like nylon and polyester.  We always recommend keeping your home around 70-72 degrees for fastest dry times.  Cracking windows also allows moisture to be pushed out.  Try to use your carpets minimally for 24 hours so the individual fibers can dry with structural integrity (not crushed under foot).

Getting stains out of a carpet largely depends on what made he stain, how long it has been there and what chemicals have been used on it in the past and if those chemicals were completely rinsed out.  The best way to get a stain out is to act fast when it happens!  The best answer is to keep it from drying and give us a call!  There are many different stains with many different chemicals such as coffee spills, coffee stains, pet stains(vomiting and urine), red wine spills, cool-aid and other dyed drink spills, water based paint spills, oil based paint spills and stains, and for those of us who have raised children, we know that doesn't even scratch the surface.  I've asked and been ask on more than a few occasions, "what did you spill on the floor?"  All these stains need to be handled in a correct way for that chemical to be released from the fibers of your carpet.  Be careful not to put chemicals on it that will change the color of your carpets.  When that happens, it cannot be fixed without re-dying it.  If you use soaps, keep in mind, if it doesn't get completely extracted, it will attract dirt like a magnet and you will have a spot from there.  Call us with any questions and we will be happy to assist.

Pets are part of our families and we love them.  We love playing with them, they sleep by our beds or sometimes on our beds.  They live in our homes.  For some of us, we live in their homes!  So how do we keep our homes clean and (mostly) hair free?  Maintenance.  Animal hair, just like ours, has oils that carry with it heavy soiling.  The darker spots where your pet sleeps aren't just built up hair.  The oils attract dirt to it and make these areas more heavily soiled.  If you have animals that shed their hair, invest in a high quality vacuum with a great filtration system!  With or without pets, a high quality vacuum matters to your floors.  Be sure to vacuum regularly.  When we come for your regular cleaning, we will use our counter rotating brush to get deep into the fibers of your carpet to get large amounts of built up hair out of your carpets before our final extraction.  If you would like a pet hair treatment between your regular cleanings, feel free to call us and we will bring our machine for a quick dry extraction of your pets extra hair!

Your carpets should be professionally cleaned with the hot water extraction method every 12-18 months according to most carpet manufacturers.  But weekly maintenance is just as important to keep your carpets sanitary and fresh.  A high quality vacuum should be used twice a week in heavy traffic areas.  We also offer encapsulation cleanings between hot water extraction cleanings to help eliminate built up soil that your vacuum has missed.  This is a lower cost maintenance that doesn't require water to do the cleaning.  We sprinkle the cleaner on the carpet and brush it in.  We let it dwell, collect and encapsulate dirt in the carpets.  Then we use our counter rotating vacuum to brush up all the collecting soil and transport it out of your carpets and out of your home.

If you have loose or wrinkled carpets that have been an eye sore or a safety hazard for years and you aren't sure what you should do about it, give us a call.  They need to be professionally stretched.  Often times when carpets are installed, they are not installed in a manufacturer approved way.  All carpets need to be installed with a power stretch to get the carpets to the manufacturer specified standards.  A knee kicker will only temporarily fix ripples in carpets.  Carpets that are not properly stretched can begin to wear out quickly and can begin to permanently stain on ridges of ripples.  Dirt from your subfloor will work its way through the carpets backing and into the fibers of your carpet.  The jute backing will also begin to wear down as the loose carpet moves underneath your feet.  If you want to know if your carpets need stretched, go to the middle of a room, grab your carpet and pull up.  If it raises more than about an inch, you probably need it to be stretched.  We offer carpet stretching in most areas of your home and offer some carpet repairs as well.

Wool carpet is a beautiful way to upgrade your home.  Wool is a high quality natural fiber that requires careful and gentle maintenance to retain its high quality feel and look.  Wool carpets require less water at a lower temperature than synthetic carpets do.  It also requires wool specific cleaners and rinses and gentler care to not break down its fibers.  The good news is we are wool carpet and rug specialists!  We have all the necessary tools, cleaners, rinses and knowledge to leave your wool carpets fresh and clean to be enjoyed by all who come!

Steam cleaning or hot water extraction is widely considered the best method to clean your carpets, rugs and upholstery.  While all methods will clean your carpets to a point, you must ask; How clean do I want my carpets?  Most methods clean surface dirt but are unable to reach and extract the soil buried deep within your carpets fibers.  Most carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction.  Think of hot water extraction like doing dishes.  You make a delicious pan of lasagna for the family to enjoy.  After dinner you play games all night and decide to wait on dishes until the next morning.  To try cleaning that hardened cheese and noodles from the lasagna pan, what do you do?  Attack it with a dry sponge?  Or put a little cold water on the sponge and start scrubbing?  Of course not!  What do you do?  Crank up the hot water and add your dish soap.  Let it sit and do its job.  It begins to break down the hardened food.  After you get all the visible food off the dish, do you put it back in the cabinet for your next cooking adventure?  No, you put it in the dishwasher.  Because to kill any bacteria you need HOT water.  At 212 degrees, water will kill nearly all bacteria instantly.  Thats essentially how our method works.  We spray in the right chemistry for your home mixed with hot water.  We then brush it in with our counter rotating brush.  We let it sit and do its work, breaking down the soils and loosening its grip from your carpets fibers.  Then we bring the HEAT!  Our machine runs at 220 to 230 degrees with 12 plus pounds of suction!  So we use the heat to break the soil from the fiber and the suction to get it out of your home as quickly as possible.  Thats why hot water extraction works for you.  Yes, it leaves your carpets clean and looking great but at our temperatures, it also kills nearly every bacteria that may have been living in your homes carpets leaving your home healthy and safe for you and your family.
